Modern Comfort Whole Home Remodel – Kitchen

Squirrel Hill

the details:

Our clients came to Marvista to develop a redesign of their kitchen, master suite, and living space.  The current layout of the kitchen was not ideal for cooking or entertaining.  Changing the location of the range allowed us to create a focal point featuring a luxurious handcrafted metal hood. The sink was then positioned at a window for a beautiful view outside. By eliminating the peninsula and adding an island, the kitchen gained a great area for entertaining and food preparation.  The kitchen elements utilized the perfect blend of metals, wood tones, and marbles which both modernized the space and kept the integrity of the home. In addition, a concrete-look porcelain floor was installed throughout the kitchen and a contemporary large format marble fireplace was added to modernize the living space.

The clients also worked with our team to update the finishes and layout of their master suite. A walk-in shower and freestanding tub were high priority items for the renovation to create a  spa-like “escape” where our clients could unwind after work. The finishes for the design feature a blend of modern and transitional elements to keep the integrity of the home and features a walk-in shower, freestanding tub, and walk-in closet. The warm, two-toned walnut cabinetry features some traditional style moldings but added some modern elements with acrylic matte black hardware.

Features & Challenges of the Project:

The client did not want to eliminate the dining room so we could not expand the kitchen and needed to focus the redesign in the existing location. We kept the cabinetry tone lighter and added in some dark industrial elements for contrast. The overall reconfiguration of the work triangle improved the use of the kitchen.
The initial vision was for the master suite was to have a “wet room.” We decided that it was best for the clients to have the best of both worlds with storage and a large bathing area. The built-in linen cabinet allowed for a large shower area with a custom shower door. We chose darker tile on the back wall of the shower to make the shower feel larger.
