Natural Charm: Mount Lebanon Home Addition

Project Details

This home addition project in Mount Lebanon, Pittsburgh, transformed a 1939 brick house into a modern, functional space for a growing family. The homeowners, both working remotely with an expanding family, wanted more living space. The design includes a spacious open-concept living and dining area, plus a second-floor addition with a bedroom, office, laundry, and bathroom.

With one homeowner having an architecture background and a passion for classic design, the goal was to blend the new addition with the home’s original character. The exterior features a moody dark Hardie panel siding, complementing the aged brick, while complementary shingles replaced the original slate roof. Exterior lighting fixtures were carefully chosen to unify the old and new elements.

Inside, we focused on period-appropriate moldings, finishes, and paint colors. The first floor was “color-drenched” in a muted, statement-making shade that complemented the home's classic style while offering a fresh, modern feel. The challenge was balancing high-end finishes with staying within budget. To meet this, we used creative, cost-effective solutions that elevated the space. Prefinished hardwood flooring was installed throughout, and vinyl windows were selected to harmonize with the original windows. Updated hardware added subtle elegance.

By finding the right balance between upgrading certain elements and simplifying others, the project stayed on track and on budget. The result is a beautifully executed addition that feels seamlessly integrated into the home, offering a timeless yet modern design that enhances both functionality and style for the growing family, while respecting the home’s original character.

How Our Design-Build Process Works

Remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. We’ve spent years building a process that keeps things clear, organized, and efficient—start to finish. You won’t be chasing contractors or stuck waiting for answers. Our three-phase design-build approach brings everything under one roof: design, pricing, and construction. Here's how it flows:
Discovery

We get to know your home, understand how you live, and map out the possibilities. This includes layout options, a realistic investment range, and a clear scope of work so everyone’s aligned from the start.

Design Finalization

Once the big decisions are made, we dive into the details—materials, finishes, drawings, and walkthroughs. We’ll help you make confident selections and lock in a fixed price before we build a thing.
