Elevated Living: Squirrel Hill Kitchen Remodel
Project Details
This Kitchen Renovation Project in a sprawling Pittsburgh Midcentury Home transformed a small laundry room, pantry, and kitchen into a spacious, functional space that seamlessly integrates with the rest of the home. This ambitious redesign includes the addition of a central island, which was previously not possible due to the layout and separation of rooms. The island is paired with a light quartz countertop featuring a striking waterfall edge, providing both beauty and practicality. The kitchen showcases deep green custom cabinetry, which add a modern yet timeless touch, and a built-in bench area for seating, ideal for casual dining or relaxing.
A focal point of the design is the beautiful drywall hood over the range, which complements the sleek, clean lines of the cabinetry. To enhance functionality and maintain a tidy aesthetic, appliances will be concealed within cabinets with bifold doors, while mini flush-mount ceiling lights will provide discreet, efficient lighting. The addition of a stackable laundry unit tucked inside a cabinet with proper ventilation ensures the space remains practical while optimizing the kitchen's layout.
The project also incorporates a number of thoughtful functional features, including a built-in bench for lounging, a dedicated beverage fridge, and a locked cabinet for alcohol storage, ensuring safety in a family-friendly environment. A separate beverage faucet and fridge integrated into the island enhances the functionality for prep work and entertaining. The design also includes tile flooring intentionally selected to harmonize with the rest of the home's style. Large windows overlooking the backyard and above the sink bring in natural light, connecting the indoor space to the outdoor area and keeping the space bright and true to the home’s Mid-Century architecture.
The clients were thrilled with the result of an updated mid-century style with practical, family-focused design solutions.
